Marjorie Taylor Greene Clarifies Comment That ‘Satan’ Controls Catholic Church

Last week, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) said she believes that “Satan” is controlling the Catholic Church, but now she is clarifying her comments.

Greene’s interview with right-wing activist Michael Voris quickly went viral. Her comment was in reference to the Catholic Church’s aid to undocumented immigrants.

The Catholic League president Bill Donohue said that Greene “slandered” Catholics and demanded an apology from her. In response to Donohue’s demand, Greene took to Twitter refusing to apologize while issuing her own demand for an apology.

Greene is an Evangelical Protestant but was once a Catholic. She left the church because she said it “harbored monsters even in their own ranks.” She has even brought up the Catholic Church’s recent scandals, saying she “could not trust church leadership to protect her children from pedophiles.”

Greene stated that she was referring to the leaders of the Catholic Church and not the followers of the faith. “Until the people running the Catholic Church stop abusing children and stop covering up the abuse of children, I will continue to hold them to account,” she said.

Donohue said he will talk to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-California) about Greene calling her a “loose cannon.”
