Roy Moore Receives President Trump’s Endorsement

On Monday, President Donald Trump firmly endorsed Republican nominee Roy Moore for a seat on the United States Senate.

The Republican National Committee had severed its ties to the nominee when allegations of sexual misconduct was brought to light.  After originally severing ties with Moore, the Republican National Committee was urged by Trump to restore its support for Moore’s campaign. With the Republican National Committee and President Trump backing him, Moore’s chances have improved significantly.

On Dec. 4, Trump tweeted, “Democrats refusal to give even one vote for massive Tax Cuts is why we need Republican Roy Moore to win in Alabama. We need his vote on stopping crime, illegal immigration, Border Wall, Military, Pro Life, V.A., Judges 2nd Amendment and more. No to Jones, a Pelosi/Schumer Puppet!”

Even with Trump and the RNC backing him, Moore still faces strong headwinds. Recently Moore and Jimmy Kimmel got into a heated twitter fight, with Kimmel taunting Moore with his sexual misconduct allegations. Another surprising source of opposition comes from within the Republican party itself. Mitt Romney, the party’s presidential nominee in 2012, took to Twitter to show his disapproval shortly after Trump announced his endorsement of Moore. Romney tweeted, “Roy Moore in the US Senate would be a stain on the GOP and on the nation. Leigh Corfman and other victims are courageous heroes. No vote, no majority is worth losing our honor, our integrity.”
