Roger Stone had an even larger role in helping President Donald Trump win the 2016 election than previously believed.
Stone, a long-time adviser for Trump, pressed a contact to request damaging emails about Hillary Clinton from WikiLeaks, the non-profit news-leaking organization founded by Julian Assange, according to a Thursday report from The Wall Street Journal.
Just months before the election in 2016, WikiLeaks released hundreds of hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee’s servers, and Stone has denied having played any role in this.
The Journal claimed Stone did not just request “confirmation” that WikiLeaks had information about Clinton — as he said in his 2017 testimony before the House Intelligence Committee — but allegedly pressured radio host Randy Credico to ask Assange for emails about Clinton. Among the information Stone was seeking was reportedly intel about the former first lady’s alleged involvement in halting a Libyan peace deal during her tenure as secretary of state.

“I can’t ask them favors every other day,” Credico told Stone of WikiLeaks and Assange, per the Journal. “I asked one of his lawyers … they have major legal headaches … relax.”
Earlier this week, Stone said in an interview on NBC’s Meet The Press that he is “prepared” to be indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller in the investigation on Russian collusion, although he added he think this would show Mueller is making “an effort to silence” him. Stone also said in that appearance that eight of his former colleagues had been “terrorized” by federal investigators.
Stone has confessed to communicating with Guccifer 2.0, the Russian hacker — or group of hackers — the FBI claims is responsible for leaking the DNC’s emails in 2016. Among these hacked emails were some belonging to Clinton’s then-campaign manager John Podesta. These emails were published the same day as the infamous 2005 Access Hollywood tape that showed Trump making crude comments and openly confessing to sexually assaulting women.
The DNC recently sued the Trump campaign and WikiLeaks for attempting to sway the 2016 election toward Trump. The president threatened to countersue the committee.
Two of Stone’s associates were subpoenaed by Mueller last week.
