The Republican National Committee (RNC) will host events for their April donor retreat at former President Donald Trump‘s golf club Mar-A-Lago.

Mar-A-Lago has become Trump’s base of operations since he left the White House. Trump and his advisers treat the club like a tropical White House complete with staff for Trump’s Political Action Committee (PAC) Save American PAC. The RNC, hoping to maintain the good graces of the former president, have moved the venue of several donor events from a nearby luxury hotel to Trump’s golf club. The former president will also speak at the event.

During Trump’s presidency, the RNC regularly held donor events in Palm Beach, Florida. This donor retreat, however, is the first event the RNC has moved to accommodate Trump after his presidency.

The RNC’s choice came as a surprise to several insiders, as Trump and his legal team recently sent cease-and-desist letters to the RNC for using Trump’s likeness on fundraising emails and merchandise. Trump has been outspoken against Republican giants like Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky), who denounced him after the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.
