On Friday evening, McClatchy’s DC bureau reported that Special Council Robert Mueller has evidence suggesting that in late August 2016 the personal attorney to the president, Michael Cohen, had indeed traveled to Prague. Both the president and Cohen had previously denied that the trip occurred.
The dossier compiled by ex-British intelligence officer Christopher Steele and funded in part by an attorney for the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee, alleges that Cohen took over the relationship that the president’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort had worked to cultivate with Russia.

Though it still unknown who Cohen may have met with in Prague, the dossier alleges that it could have been agents of the Russian government, including officials such as Konstantin Kosachev, who heads Russia’s foreign relations committee in its upper house of parliament.

Shortly after BuzzFeed first published the dossier last year, Cohen responded on Twitter with a snapshot of the cover his passport with the caption, “I have never been to Prague in my life. #fakenews.”
Since travel within most countries in the European Union doesn’t require passport checks at national boarders, it is not clear what Cohen may have meant. Cohen later provided BuzzFeed with his passport. The only travel it appears Cohen may have made anywhere near the general vicinity of the Prague was a July trip to Italy – an earlier time frame than the dossier alleges.
One day after Cohen posted the image of his passport on Twitter, President Donald Trump held a press conference. “[Cohen] brings his passport to my office,” Trump said. “I say, ‘Hey, wait a minute.’ He didn’t leave the country. He wasn’t out of the country. They had Michael Cohen of the Trump Organization was in Prague. It turned out to be a different Michael Cohen. It’s a disgrace what took place. It’s a disgrace and I think they ought to apologize to start with Michael Cohen.”
Cohen took to Twitter this weekend to again deny that he traveled to Prague.
