Rep. Matt Gaetz Reprimanded For Interrupting Heated Impeachment Hearing Exchange

In Monday’s House Judiciary Committee impeachment hearing, Doug Collins (R-Georgia) slammed Daniel Goldman, the lawyer for Democrats on the House Intelligence, and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) interrupted.

Collins accused Goldman of letting personal ties mar his testimony. While discussing Gordon Sondland, the U.S. Ambassador to the European Union, Goldman made a snide remark about Sondland.

Goldman stated that Sondland was a million-dollar donor to President Donald Trump, which Collins said was an implication that Sondland either bought his job or got it because he was loyal to President.

Collins fired at Goldman stating that Goldman was a prominent Democratic donor himself – saying, “be careful how you throw around dollars in giving.” He also stated, “And I’m not going to say it questions your motives or your position here today. But we need to make sure that this thing is already blown out of proportion. We’re already not answering questions. And you are here without a pen, because your chairman will not testify. He don’t even stand behind his own report, and he sends you.”

Goldman then questioned what Collins was saying and the implication that he was trying to make. At that point, Gaetz interrupted, stating, “the implication is that we want Schiff in that chair not you. The implication is the person that wrote the report is the person who should come and present it.” Gaetz also added, “you weren’t elected by anybody and you are here giving this testimony in place of the chairman.”

Gaetz then was formally reprimanded for interrupting by Chairman Jerry Nadler.
