Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) confirmed she spoke with former President Donald Trump on the phone to help gain Republican support for Rep. Kevin McCarthy‘s (R-California) speakership bid.
The phone call was in the middle of a tense moment on Friday night as the GOP attempted to wrangle right-wing members to vote for McCarthy.
Greene was filmed calling a contact named “DT.” She offered the phone to Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-Montana), who pushed the phone away.
Greene confirmed rumors that the mysterious contact was indeed Trump when she tweeted the image on Saturday.

“It was the perfect phone call,” she tweeted, wryly referencing Trump’s 2019 call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that became the subject of his first impeachment.
Trump placed multiple calls to other factions of the right wing of the Republican party, including Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida). The call was placed after Gaetz’s “present” vote on the 14th round of voting denied McCarthy a majority.
The former president also made a similar call to McCarthy opponent Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Arizona).

Biggs, Gaetz and other members of the Freedom Caucus voted “present” on the 15th vote, lowering McCarthy’s threshold to get a majority and handing McCarthy the top seat in the House.
McCarthy continued to praise Trump for the continued support of his speakership.
“I don’t think anybody should doubt his influence. He was with me from the beginning,” the speaker said to reporters.
