Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Defends Calling Democrats ‘Pedophiles’

Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) reiterated her previously stated opinion that the Democrats are “pedophiles” in an interview with Lesley Stahl on 60 Minutes.

“I would definitely say so,” said Greene in response to one question where Stahl asked her if the congresswoman still agreed with her previous statements on the matter. “They support grooming children.”

“They’re not pedophiles, why would you say that?” exclaimed Stahl.

“Democrats support—even Joe Biden, the president himself, supports children being sexualized and having transgender surgeries,” Greene responded. “Sexualizing children is what pedophiles do to children.”

“Wow,” said Stahl in response, appearing shocked and lost for words.

It is unclear what Greene is referring to, besides the Democratic Party’s general stance that transgender surgeries should be accessible to Americans who do not identify with their sex assigned at birth or their opinion that banning drag shows would be an infringement on free expression.

Greene did admit that the Parkland shooting in 2018, which killed 17 people and injured 17 others, was not staged, and claimed her old post agreeing with a conspiracy theory was made by a staffer.

“You’re not always in control, we have all kinds of people that work on our social media.”

Stahl has faced criticism for the interview, mainly for giving a divisive figure such a large platform on mainstream media. Others, however, in defense of Stahl, have suggested that the interview was warranted given Greene’s powerful new position in Congress.

Greene played a large role in getting Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-California) elected as speaker of the House, and has been rewarded by Republican leadership for doing so. Greene currently serves on the Committee on Oversight and Accountability and the Committee on Homeland Security, two of the most prestigious and active committees in Congress.

Greene is a close ally of former President Donald Trump.
