One of Rep. Louie Gohmert‘s (R-Texas) daughters has reprimanded him not for wearing a mask or following medical advice after his positive COVID-19 diagnosis last week.

On Friday, Caroline Gohmert, the daughter of the Texan congressman, who is a performer whose stage names are Caroline Brooks and BELLSAINT, said on Twitter that “[w]earing a mask is a non-partisan issue.”

Caroline continued, “The advice of medical experts shouldn’t be politicized. My father ignored medical expertise and now he has COVID.”

“This has been a heartbreaking battle bc I love my dad and don’t want him to die…Please please listen to medical experts. It’s not worth following a president who has no remorse for leading his followers to an early grave,” she added.

Caroline’s comments were confirmed by her agent Ryan Vaughn on Monday. They followed two days after Gohmert’s positive diagnosis last week, which had prompted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to formalize new rules in the lower house chamber.

Gohmert’s novel coronavirus infection, which causes the COVID-19 disease, also motivated lawmakers to call for more testing procedures on Capitol Hill, as both chambers work extensively to pass another stimulus bill. On Wednesday, Pelosi enacted House-wide mask requirements.

The Texan congressman had been scheduled to fly with President Donald Trump on Air Force One last week, to Midland, Texas, but he tested positive for the virus during a preflight screening at the White House. Trump had been scheduled to fundraise for his campaign and tour an oil platform drilling rig. The White House tests anyone who would potentially be in close contact with the president.

Other lawmakers who have been infected include Reps. Mario Diaz BalartMorgan Griffith, Ben McAdams and Neal Dunn. And on the other wing of the U.S. Capitol Building – Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul.

Last Wednesday, on the day of his confirmed test, Gohmert tweeted that wearing a mask within the previous week or two may have caused him to catch the virus.

Gohmert asserted that he was asymptomatic and released a video statement on Twitter saying, “The reports of my demise are a great deal premature.”

“I don’t have any of the symptoms that are listed as part of Covid-19, but apparently I have the Wuhan virus,” he continued.

The 66-year-old representative had frequently disregarded the CDC guidelines to wear a mask amid the pandemic before becoming infected.

As late as mid-June, Gohmert boasted to CNN that he refused to sport a mask because his test results had returned negative. The Texan GOP commented, “But if I get it, you’ll never see me without a mask.”
