Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado) has claimed that the recent assault weapon ban passed by the House would result in Americans “eating dogs.”

“Here in America, we have gourmet treats for puppies; we have amazing groomers for dogs, but in Venezuela, they eat the dogs,” the congresswoman told Newsmax, a far right-wing outlet. “It’s because they don’t have firearms; they do not have a way to protect themselves against a tyrannical government.”

Before making the connection between gun regulation and animal cruelty, the congresswoman went on a tirade against the assault weapon ban, stating that if the bill were to pass the Senate, Americans “would no longer be citizens” and become “subjects.”

In the past, Boebert has made other controversial statements like calling for the complete abolishment of the separation between church and state
