Rep. Elissa Slotkin Wins Michigan Democratic Primary
Rep. Elissa Slotkin won the Democratic primary in Michigan after defeating her opponent, actor Hill Harper.
Slotkin won the nomination in the race for Sen. Debbie Stabenow‘s seat. Stabenow was the state’s first female senator and has held the seat since 2001. Stabenow decided not to run for reelection this term.
Harper is an actor known for his role on ABC’s The Good Doctor. Slotkin won with 76.2% of the vote, totaling over 702,000 votes. Harper won 23.8% of the vote, totaling over 218,000 votes.
Slotkin has served as a representative for the state since 2019. Before holding office, she worked with the Defense Department and the CIA.

Slotkin was endorsed by Reps. Hillary Scholten, Dan Kildee and Haley Stevens. She also had endorsements from numerous organizations, including EMILY’s List, Giffords and the League of Conservation Voters.
Harper was endorsed by Rep. Brenda Lawrence and comedian Dave Chappelle.
Slotkin is expected to face former Rep. Mike Rogers (R) for the seat and the race is expected to be a close one.
Following the primary, Slotkin celebrated her victory and thanked her supporters on social media.
“Thank you to everyone who cast their ballot in this primary election – and to everyone who knocked a door, talked to voters, or chipped in a few bucks to fuel this campaign,” Slotkin wrote. “I’m thrilled to officially be your Democratic Nominee for Senate. And for those who may not have voted for me, I look forward to earning your support.”
Slotkin also used social media to thank Sen. Stabenow for her support.
“Thank you Senator @stabenow for your friendship and for your unmatched legacy of service to our state,” Slotkin said. “I’m so grateful for your mentorship and guidance over the last few years, and if I’m lucky enough to win this race, I will be stepping into some enormous shoes.”
