Donald Trump on Monday went off-script while speaking in Ohio about tax reform and called Democrats “treasonous” for not applauding as he gave his State of the Union address last week.

DONALD TRUMP CALLED DEMOCRATS “TREASONOUS”

Trump was in Ohio to speak about the Republican’s tax reform law when used his 47-minute speech to air a list of his grievances. In between hearing testimonials from Ohioans, Trump bashed the Democratic Party. “Can we call that treason? Why not?” he asked, referring to the Dems unimpressed reactions to his SOTU. He also mentioned Hillary Clinton‘s use of the word “deplorable” to describe Trump supporters and spoke about his suspicion that officials within his own government are working against him.

He also turned to the upcoming midterm elections, which his aides say Trump is obsessed with. “We got to do well in ’18, and I know we’re going to do great in ’20,” Trump said in the speech in Blue Ash, a suburb of Cincinnati. “But I think we’re going to do well in ’18. I think we’re going to do very well. They have gone left. They want to raise your taxes.”

Many Trump supporters believe that the president gives his best speeches when he goes off the script, and even argue that his freewheeling attitude is what got him elected in the first place. Some Republicans, however, thought Trump’s Ohio speech was a little too much about himself rather than the tax code.

The president’s speech also failed to discuss the tanking stock market. Even as he was talking, some media networks turned their attention to the economy instead of Trump’s live remarks.

Later on in the speech, Trump spoke about the Republican-drafted memo that claims that the FBI was biased when requesting warrants on a former Trump campaign advisor, and that the information was compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele. “Oh, but did we catch them in the act or what? You know what I’m — oh did we catch them in the act,” Trump said, not elaborating on who exactly had been caught doing what. “They are very embarrassed. They never thought they were going to get caught. We caught ‘em! We caught ‘em. It’s so much fun. We’re like the great sleuth.”

Trump also criticized Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) for voting against the Republican tax bill and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-California), saying he looks forward to running against her and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-New York). “Nancy Pelosi, what she’s doing to this country, and she’s gone so far left and Schumer has gone so far left,” he said. “Oh, I look forward to running against them… [Pelosi’s] our secret weapon, I just hope they don’t change her. I’m supposed to make a deal with her?”

The speech in Ohio came after Trump made a series of five tweets Monday morning after returning from a weekend away at Mar-a-Lago, including an erroneous assertion that “thousands of people are marching in the UK” because their healthcare system “is going broke and not working” – in fact, people marched in support of their National Health Service.

“The Democrats are pushing for Universal HealthCare while thousands of people are marching in the UK because their U system is going broke and not working. Dems want to greatly raise taxes for really bad and non-personal medical care. No thanks!” he said in his first tweet. “Thank you to @foxandfriends for exposing the truth. Perhaps that’s why your ratings are soooo much better than your untruthful competition! …Little Adam Schiff, who is desperate to run for higher office, is one of the biggest liars and leakers in Washington, right up there with Comey, Warner, Brennan and Clapper! Adam leaves closed committee hearings to illegally leak confidential information. Must be stopped! …Any deal on DACA that does not include STRONG border security and the desperately needed WALL is a total waste of time. March 5th is rapidly approaching and the Dems seem not to care about DACA. Make a deal!… Representative Devin Nunes, a man of tremendous courage and grit, may someday be recognized as a Great American Hero for what he has exposed and what he has had to endure!”
