Pete Buttigieg Responds To Trump’s Hurricane Dorian Map Gaffe: “This Is Humiliating” [VIDEO]

Pete Buttigieg revealed in no uncertain terms on Thursday how flabbergasted he is by President Donald Trump‘s latest gaffe regarding a map showing Hurricane Dorian’s path.

On Wednesday, Trump displayed a map of Dorian’s projected trajectory and falsely claimed the storm could hit Alabama, although the map simply appeared to show a path crossing the state drawn with a Sharpie marker. Buttigieg, a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, called the president’s mistake “embarrassing.”

“I feel sorry for the president,” the 37-year-old South Bend, Indiana mayor told Politico. “And that is not the way we should feel about the most powerful figure in this country, someone on whose wisdom and judgment our lives literally depend.”

Buttigieg continued: “I don’t know if [Trump] felt it necessary to pull out a Sharpie and change the map, I don’t know if one of his aides believed they had to do that in order to protect his ego. No matter how you cut it, this an unbelievably sad state of affairs for our country.”

The Democratic presidential candidate went on to note how he believes it is telling that many Independent and Republican voters have said they believe an “alternative” form of leadership is increasingly necessary for the United States.

“This is humiliating. This is an embarrassing moment for our country and we seem to see a new national embarrassment every day,” Buttigieg added.

Buttigieg qualified for the next 2020 Democratic debate on September 12 after meeting both requirements regarding polling support and donations. Several major polls show him in fifth place in the race, and Real Clear Politics reports he has an average support of 4.6%. The South Bend, Indiana mayor trails former Vice President Joe Biden and Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts), Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) and Kamala Harris (D-California).
