Pete Buttigieg Endorses Joe Biden In Texas

Former South Bend mayor Pete Buttigieg announced on Sunday night that he was suspending his campaign for president. On Monday, he endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden at a campaign event in Texas.

After his farewell speech on Sunday night in South Bend, Indiana, Buttigieg reportedly spoke to Biden and former president Barack Obama.

Biden congratulated Buttigieg on his campaign and asked for an endorsement. Buttigieg didn’t answer immediately, telling aides he wanted to think about his decision overnight. Obama also congratulated Buttigieg on his campaign, as well as his difficult decision to drop out, adding that he ran a historic campaign to be proud of.

Both moderate candidates often been critical of each other. Buttigieg has labeled Biden as out of tune with current American politics, said during a debate in New Hampshire that although the achievements made by the Obama administration “were phenomenally important because they met the moment,” that Democrats now needed to, “meet this moment, and this moment is different.”

Biden has had his fair share of criticisms for Buttitieg, too, telling reporters in New Hampshire, “Oh come on, man. This guy’s not a Barack Obama.”
