Former South Bend mayor Pete Buttigieg announced on Sunday night that he was suspending his campaign for president. On Monday, he endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden at a campaign event in Texas.
After his farewell speech on Sunday night in South Bend, Indiana, Buttigieg reportedly spoke to Biden and former president Barack Obama.
Biden congratulated Buttigieg on his campaign and asked for an endorsement. Buttigieg didn’t answer immediately, telling aides he wanted to think about his decision overnight. Obama also congratulated Buttigieg on his campaign, as well as his difficult decision to drop out, adding that he ran a historic campaign to be proud of.
