Pence Says COVID-19 Pandemic Could Be ‘Behind Us’ By Memorial Day Despite Second Wave Warnings

Vice President Mike Pence said the coronavirus pandemic could be “largely” behind Americans by Memorial Day weekend despite health expert warnings of a second wave.

‘If you look at the trends today, I think by Memorial Day Weekend we will largely have this coronavirus epidemic behind us,’ Pence said in an interview with Fox News. “State and local officials will begin to reopen activities, you’re going to see states ahead here begin to do that.”

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal podcast, Pence also claimed that the outbreak could be largely over by June.

‘We truly do believe as we move forward, with responsibly beginning to reopen the economy in state after state around the country, that by early June, we could be at a place where this coronavirus epidemic is largely in the past,’ said Pence.

‘Americans are going to be able to enjoy a good summer,’ he added.

This comes after Robert Redfield, Director of the CDC, announced there might be a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic this winter.

“There’s a possibility that the assault of the virus on our nation next winter will actually be even more difficult than the one we just went through,” Redfield told the Washington Post. “And when I’ve said this to others, they kind of put their head back, they don’t understand what I mean.”
