Pelosi Proposes $3 Trillion Coronavirus Relief Plan

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other House Democrats are planning on voting on a $3 trillion coronavirus package package. This comes despite pushback from both liberal Democrats and conservative Republicans.

While progressives in Congress don’t think the bill goes far enough, Republicans say there hasn’t been enough time since the last plan passed to know if more legislation is needed.

Still, Pelosi will move forward with the bill, arguing that the 14.7 percent unemployment rate justifies the need for Congress to “think big” in repsondind to the cornnavirus pandemic.

“We must think big for the people now because if we don’t it will cost more in lives and livelihood later,” Pelosi said on Tuesday. “Not acting is the most expensive course. We are presenting a plan to do what is necessary to deal with the corona crisis and make sure we can get the country back to work and school safely.”

Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D) and Mark Pocan (D) plan on postponing the vote until next week to allow for members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus to read it entirely and push for changes. They sent a letter to Pelosi asking for a full caucus discussion on the bill and any amendments that might be needed.”

“Under no circumstances are we ready to vote on the bill this week,” Jayapal said in an interview.
