Despite rumors brought up by Nevada House representative Mark Amodei, House Speaker Paul Ryan will not be stepping down from his post.
Yesterday, Amodei said that there was a rumor on Capitol Hill that Ryan would resign within the next month or two, leaving the role House Speaker to Majority Whip Steve Scalise. Amodei said he doesn’t specifically know why Ryan would resign.
“I don’t know. If I was just guessing, he wanted to do the tax-cut bill,” Amodei told the Nevada Newsmakers. “You know, John Boehner said the thing, ‘Hey, I checked all of the boxes I thought were important and I’m moving on to whatever else.'”

According to The Washington Post, Amodei is not a close advisor to Ryan, and spokespeople for both Ryan and Scalise have said the rumors are not true.
“The speaker is not resigning,” AshLee Strong, a spokeswoman for the Speaker, said in a statement to The Hill.
Scalise’s spokespeople stated he is proud to serve with Ryan and that Ryan’s choice to remain House Speaker would be fully supported.
“Our whole leadership team is focused on working with President [Donald] Trump to deliver more conservative wins for the country, and also ensuring we keep the majority so we can continue implementing President Trump’s agenda that is getting our economy back on track,” Lauren Fine, Scalise’s spokeswoman, said to The Hill.
