Former President Donald Trump adviser Paul Manafort was removed from a plane at Miami International Airport headed to Dubai because he was carrying a revoked passport on Sunday night.

Miami-Dade Police Department Detective Alvara Zabaleta confirmed that Manafort had exited the plane with “no further incident.” The purpose of his trip to Dubai is unknown.

Manafort served as campaign chairman for Trump’s 2016 campaign, but was let go in August of that year after speculation of illegal business dealings rose. He was heavily involved in the Trump-Russia conspiracy as a primary contact who passed information from the Trump campaign to Russian spies.

In 2018, he was indicted on eight counts of bank and tax fraud which landed him a seven-plus year prison sentence. In 2020, he was allowed to serve the rest of his sentence at home in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. President Trump pardoned him in December 2020.
