Obama Embarks On Campaign To Help Biden Win Votes In Swing States

Former President Barack Obama set out on Wednesday to campaign not only for his former Vice President and Democratic nominee Joe Biden, but to campaign specifically against President Donald Trump.

While Obama has generally stayed quiet about the Trump presidency over the past four years, Trump has reversed multiple policies the Obama Administration put into place. Obama is scheduled to make two campaign stops in Philadelphia on Wednesday.

One of the highly anticipated points of attack against Trump is on the president’s attempts at dismantling the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which was the Obama Administration’s signature legislation that attempted to increase health insurance coverage more Americans, require insurers to cover preexisting conditions and reduce healthcare costs.

The ACA is currently being fought by the Trump administration in court, despite the possibility that it could make it much more difficult for those with preexisting conditions, who are at higher risk to coronavirus complications, to afford hospitalization and treatment for the virus in case of infection.

Obama is also expected to encourage voters to vote early, as well as explain the historic importance of the election, and why Biden and running mate Sen. Kamala Harris (D-California) are the best pair for the job.

Obama’s rallies will be in-person, but similar to Biden’s rallies, they will be conducted with COVID-19 in mind; one of his rallies in will be given in drive-in format, where attendants will listen from inside their cars in a sports complex parking lot.

This is not the first time Obama has stepped out to help a Democratic presidential candidate. In 2016, Obama and wife Michelle Obama campaigned for Hillary Clinton in Philadelphia on the night before the election. Despite thousands of people attending, Clinton lost the election and the state of Pennsylvania to Trump the next day.
