NRA Slams Nationwide ‘March For Our Lives’ Rallies, Mocks Survivors Of Shootings

Hundreds of thousands of people gathered in several cities and towns across the United States on Saturday to protest the lack of gun reform in the wake of several mass shootings, and the National Rifle Association unsurprisingly didn’t like this.

NRA Criticizes March For Our Lives Protests News

The NRA posted a membership-drive video to Facebook with a caption that criticized many of the people participating, including survivors of gun violence incidents.

“Today’s protests aren’t spontaneous,” the post declared. “Gun-hating billionaires and Hollywood elites are manipulating and exploiting children as part of their plan to DESTROY the Second Amendment and strip us of our right to defend ourselves and our loved ones.”

Join the NRA, the group added, to “stand and fight for our kids’ safety.”

The “March For Our Lives” protest was spearheaded by students from Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where 17 people were killed by a 19-year-old gunman on Feb. 14. The shooting inspired nationwide walkouts from school students on the one-month anniversary of the tragedy.

The students were some of the many people — which also included other activists, politicians and celebrities — who delivered impassioned speeches about their experiences and about the need for new laws to make the country safer as soon as possible. Some people even lambasted lawmakers for accepting donations from the NRA and other gun organizations in exchange for refusing to pass sensible gun control legislation.

“Vote them out! Vote them out!” was among the many chants that rang out throughout the marches.

A recent survey found that 69 percent of Americans support gun reform legislation.

“If we move on, the NRA and those against us will win,” said 17-year-old survivor Delaney Tarr.  “They want us to forget. They want our voices to be silenced. And they want to retreat into the shadows where they can remain unnoticed. They want to be back on top, unquestioned in their corruption, but we cannot and we will not let that happen.”

The NRA also shared a video on Facebook over the weekend that derided the march as a “carnival.”

“From where I’m standing, it looks like a march to burn the Constitution and rewrite the parts that they don’t like in crayon,” said NRA TV host “Colion Noir,” referring to all the young activists leading the rally.
