NBC, Fox & Facebook Pull Donald Trump Immigration Ad About ‘Cop Killers’ That CNN Calls ‘Racist’

Fox, NBC and Facebook all announced on Monday they would pull an anti-immigration ad President Donald Trump shared last week that CNN and many others called “racist.”

CNN refused to show the video, which Trump shared on Wednesday, less than one week before the midterm elections. The ad showed an undocumented Mexican immigrant named Luis Bracamontes grinning while bragging about murdering two sheriff deputies in Sacramento in 2014, a crime for which he was convicted. Trump accused Democrats for allowing convicted felons like Bracamontes into the country, and urged voters in an accompanying tweet to vote Republican on Tuesday, claiming the GOP will “Make America Safe Again.”

“CNN has made it abundantly clear in its editorial coverage that this ad is racist. When presented with an opportunity to be paid to take a version of this ad, we declined. Those are the facts,” CNN’s communications team wrote on Twitter Saturday. The network tweeted the message in response to Donald Trump Jr., who slammed CNN by saying it runs “fake news and won’t talk about real threats that don’t suit their agenda.”

Trump shared the ad just as the media has grown obsessed over a caravan of around 3,000 migrants traveling across Mexico and approaching the U.S. southern border. Fox News has spread fear about the caravan by describing it as an “invasion” and by claiming many of the immigrants are dangerous young men who carry diseases like smallpox and leprosy.

Over the weekend, NBC aired a shorter version of Trump’s ad that did not include the false allegation that Democrats were responsible for letting in people like Bracamontes. The video was shown on the network during the Sunday Night Football matchup between the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers.

Facebook pulled the ad, saying it violated the website’s policies regarding sensational content.

Trump’s 2020 campaign team was quick to respond to NBC, CNN and Facebook pulling the ad, although Fox News was not mentioned.

“So, @NBCNews @CNN @facebook have chosen to stand with those ILLEGALLY IN THIS COUNTRY. Instead of standing with LEGAL IMMIGRANTS and those that follow our laws,” Trump’s campaign manager Brad Parscale tweeted on Monday. “STOP THE CARAVAN!”

Last week, Trump ordered 5,200 military troops be sent to the border to deal with the caravan. He said he was prepared to increase that number to 15,000 troops if necessary.
