Nancy Pelosi Told To Vacate Her Office By Acting House Speaker Patrick McHenry

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was ordered to vacate her office in the U.S. Capitol building by Wednesday as ordered by Acting Speaker Patrick McHenry.

McHenry assumed the position after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was removed from his position on Tuesday afternoon.

An email sent to Pelosi on Tuesday stated that the room would be “re-keyed.”

Shortly after Pelosi was ordered to leave her office, she released a statement.

“With all of the important decisions that the new Republican Leadership must address, which we are all eagerly awaiting, one of the first actions taken by the new Speaker Pro Tempore was to order me to immediately vacate my office in the Capitol,” she said. “Sadly, because I am in California to mourn the loss of and pay tribute to my dear friend Dianne Feinstein, I am unable to retrieve my belongings at this time.”

Pelosi served as the speaker of the House two separate times, first in 2007 to 2011 and once more in 2019 to 2023.

She continued to say in her statement that “this eviction is a sharp departure from tradition. As Speaker, I gave former Speaker Hastert a significantly larger suite of offices for as long as he wished.”

“Office space doesn’t matter to me, but it seems to be important to them,” said Pelosi. “Now that the new Republican Leadership has settled this important matter, let’s hope they get to work on what’s truly important for the American people.”
