Attorney General Merrick Garland stated that he would resign from his position if President Joe Biden asked him to take any action against former President Donald Trump.
“I am sure that that will not happen, but I would not do anything in that regard,” he said during an interview on 60 Minutes. “And if necessary, I would resign. But there is no sense that anything like that will happen.”
The Justice Department is currently dealing with multiple indictments against Trump, including in a case about his effort to overturn the 2020 elections.
The department has also charged Biden’s son, Hunter Biden. Hunter was recently indicted on a gun charge and appeared in a Delaware court this week.

Three separate special counsels are assisting Garland.
Garland has not talked about the cases in detail, saying during his interview that he would not get into specifics. However, he disputed claims by Trump and his supporters that the cases are meant to hurt his chances in the 2024 election.
“Well, that’s absolutely not true. Justice Department prosecutors are nonpartisan. They don’t allow partisan considerations to play any role in their determinations,” Garland said.
Rejecting Republicans’ claims that he was treating the president’s son with leniency, he said the president has never interfered with the investigations.
