Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) said Tuesday that he does not remember ever calling President Donald Trump‘s July 25 phone call with Ukraine “perfect.”
Trump, who has repeatedly described the conversation as “perfect,” said in early October that McConnell found no fault with the transcript.
“He read my phone call with the president of Ukraine. Mitch McConnell, he said, ‘That was the most innocent phone call that I’ve read.’ I mean, give me a break. Anybody that reads it says the same thing,” Trump said.
McConnell seemingly contradicted Trump’s statement, telling reporters at his weekly news conference, “We’ve not had any conversations on that subject,” when asked if he believed the President handled the Ukrainian situation perfectly.
