Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spent $10,000 taxpayer dollars on custom pens for his dinner guests. This information surfaced in a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit by the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.
During his tenure as secretary of state, Pompeo hosted “Madison Dinners,” “events [that] were essentially using federal resources to cultivate a donor and supporter base for Pompeo’s political ambitions,” according to NBC News.
The embossed pens cost $26 each – and were manufactured in China.
