Before Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, came under investigation, he dreamed of running for mayor of New York City.
On election night of 2016, when the Trump team realized he would win the presidency, Cohen confided to a small group at the Hilton Hotel on Sixth Avenue his own political endeavors, according to an Axios report. “This is the beginning of a dynasty,” he said.

When Cohen was asked if he meant Ivanka Trump or Donald Trump Jr was going to get the political bug, he said he’s “already got the bug” and wishes to run for mayor, according to the report. “Nobody’s going to be able to f– with us. I think I’m going to run for mayor.” Later that night, around 3:30 a.m., someone yelled out “Cohen for mayor!” to which Cohen pumped his fist in the air, according to Axios’ source.

The plan clearly did not pan out.
Cohen is now under investigation by federal prosecutors in Manhattan for possible bank fraud, wire fraud and campaign finance violations. He has also come under fire for his role in paying adult film star Stormy Daniels $130,000 in an attempt to keep her alleged affair with then-presidential candidate Trump under wraps.
When asked about his mayoral dreams, Cohen told Axios: “Despite many friends suggesting that I run for mayor…I obviously chose not to. Additionally, I believe that Mayor de Blasio is doing a fine job for our city.”
