Donald Trump‘s former “fixer” and attorney Michael Cohen gave an explosive testimony before Congress last week, discussing the infamous June 2016 Trump Tower meeting among other things.
Prior to that meeting, Cohen recalled Donald Jr. entering Trump’s office and walking “behind his father’s desk,” noting this was an “unusual” event. “People didn’t just walk behind Mr. Trump’s desk to talk to him.” The younger Trump then leaned over, whispering, “The meeting is all set.” The then-presidential candidate responded by saying, “Okay, good. Let me know.”
Cohen noted how, adding to the abnormality of this exchange, Trump had often derided Don Jr. for having poor judgement. “What struck me as I looked back and thought about that exchange between Don Jr. and his father was, first, that Mr. Trump had frequently told me and others that his son Don Jr. had the worst judgment of anyone in the world.” Continuing, Cohen explained how Donald Jr. was never tasked with setting up important meetings by himself, especially “not without checking with his father.”

“I also knew that nothing went on in Trump world, especially the campaign, without Mr. Trump’s knowledge and approval,” Cohen concluded on the matter. Trump has previously denied knowing of the Trump Tower meeting, where his son met with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, who allegedly has ties to Vladimir Putin.
Trump and his allies have been harshly critical of Cohen’s credibility, arguing he has none for having previously lied to Congress. Donald Jr. also called the timing of Cohen’s testimony into question, implying the Democrats’ loathing of his father is so powerful they’re willing “to disrupt nuclear peace talks with testimony from a convicted felon.”
