Michael Avenatti, Stormy Daniel’s Lawyer, Considers Running For President In 2020

Michael Avenatti, the lawyer representing adult film star Stormy Daniels, who has claimed that she had a liaison with President Donald Trump, is considering to run for President in 2020.

Avenatti, who rose to prominence as an outspoken critic of the president, toured the Iowa State Fair on Thursday. “I’m strongly considering it — it’s going to have a lot to do with who enters the race,” Avenatti said.

In an interview with the Des Moines Register Avenatti said, “I’m exploring a run for the presidency of the United States, and I wanted to come to Iowa and listen to people and learn about some issues that are facing the citizens of Iowa and do my homework.”

The California-based lawyer is scheduled to speak at the Democratic Wing Ding fundraiser on Friday in Clear Lake. Former presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders were hosted by the event in 2015. Then-U.S. Sen. Barack Obama headlined the event during his first run for president in 2007. Declared 20202 presidential candidates Republican John Delaney of Maryland and entrepreneur Andrew Yang are also expected at the event Friday night.

Avenatti, who has no political experience, has faced criticism that he’s just trying to profit from his fame. On Thursday, he denied those claims, saying he will work hard and earn the trust of the citizens of Iowa. “I would never think to come to Iowa in order to use the state or the people of the state to raise my profile,” he told the Des Moines Register. “And obviously if I do this, then I intend to work hard and I know that ultimately the trust of the citizens of Iowa is going to have to be earned.”

“I think there’s a huge appetite within the party for a fighter,” Avenatti added. “I think the party has yearned for a fighter — a fighter for good, if you will — for a significant period of time. And for many, I’m probably seen as that individual.”
