President Donald Trump‘s niece, Mary Trump, poked fun at suggestions that the president will run again in 2024, saying he would “never put himself in a position where he can lose like this again.”

Mary criticized Trump’s refusal to concede and those who supported his attempts at invalidating the election results. She said it was the Republican senators who “enabled” the president and have made the situation “dangerous.”

“This is the awful part of this. He should have been rendered completely irrelevant by now,” Mary told CNN. “Whether he concedes or not, it doesn’t matter. It’s up to the Republicans to say it’s over, we’re moving on. As long as they don’t do that, they continue to give him power. They continue to give him the ability to rile up his base and other people who voted for him.”

When asked whether she thought her uncle would run for president again, Mary laughed. She suggested the idea was “floated initially as a way to appease him and assuage his ego.”
