A press conference on Tuesday scheduled by controversial Republican lawmakers Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) was shut down by a group of protesters and ultimately canceled.

The Republicans initially met to urge the Justice Department for a status report on suspects arrested following the January 6 insurrection, who they described as “political prisoners.”

However, their effort to carry on the press conference was short-lived as the protesters constantly interrupted their remarks. Some carried signs reading “Pedophiles For Trump,” a reference to the ongoing sex trafficking investigation focused on Gaetz

“To the guy that’s blowing the whistle: we are not deterred,” Greene said at one point during her remarks after being interrupted by a whistle.

“And so for anyone that’s here, being an activist and yelling today, here’s the statement that I need everyone to understand: we will not back down, we will not stop asking questions, we are looking for the truth.”

“And we believe the truth can be found by reaching out and answering and asking the right questions to the right people,” Greene added.

After Greene and Gaetz were unable to speak about January 6 insurrection as planned, Gaetz got to finish his remarks later Tuesday in an interview with Newsmax.

“While Nancy Pelosi and her lapdogs, Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, were focused on the past, [Rep. Louie Gohmert], [Rep. Paul Gosar], [Rep. Greene] and I were concerned about violations of due process that are happening right now,” Gaetz said during the interview.

On Sunday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) officially selected Kinzinger to join the special committee. Kinzinger is the second Republican on the panel along with Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) whom Pelosi has tapped.
