The super PAC dedicated to defeating Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) as he runs for reelection in 2024 released its first attack advertisement against the senator.

The Lose Cruz PAC titled the spot “Find Your Beach” and criticized Cruz for taking a trip to Cancun, Mexico, in 2021 in the middle of a winter storm in Texas. The conditions left millions of civilians without power or access to basic resources.

The ad depicts Cruz, played by a similar-looking actor, sitting on a beach while listening to negative coverage of his vacation. As it closes, the actor throws his phone into the water and the caption “Make Ted’s Vacation Permanent” appears.

“As millions of Texans suffered without power or heat, Ted Cruz wasn’t coordinating a response or serving his constituents — he was making plans to visit a five-star resort in Cancun,” senior adviser to the PAC Sawyer Hackett told The Hill.

“Cruz abandoned his state and left Texans to die while he sipped drinks on the beach in Mexico, and we don’t let him make a punchline out of it,” Hackett continued. “With Congress heading home for the August recess, Lose Cruz is reminding voters that in their greatest time of need, their senator abandoned them.”

The PAC and other Democrats are eager to flip Cruz’s seat, which has not been done in 30 years. The senator is currently facing two Texas Democratic challengers: Rep. Colin Allred and state Sen. Roland Gutierrez.

The “Find Your Beach” advertisement will air in Houston as part of the PAC’s digital campaign.
