Larry Kudlow Suffers Heart Attack While Trump Was In North Korea

Top White House economic advisor Larry Kudlow suffered a heart attack on Monday. President Donald Trump announced this in a tweet shortly before his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and the White House released a statement shortly after.

“Earlier today National Economic Council director and assistant to the president Larry Kudlow experienced what his doctors say was a very mild heart attack,” press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said. “Larry is currently in good condition at Walter Reed National Military, and his doctors expect he will make a full and speedy recovery. The president and his administration send their thoughts and prayers to Larry and his family.”

Kudlow, 70, has been working behind the scenes crafting trade policies, all the while trying to convince investors that the president will not be launching a trade war, according. Before joining the White House staff, Kudlow spent years as a commentator on CNBC and was the chief economist at the Wall Street firm Bear Stearns.

While Kudlow was not present in Singapore for the summit, he accompanied Trump to the G-7 meeting that went more awry than intended. He then spent the following day denouncing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, telling CNN that “He really kind of stabbed us in the back.”

Kudlow’s wife, Judy Kudlow, told the Washington Post that her husband is “doing fine.” The Post reported that Kudlow is “up and talking” and had spoken on the phone with his friend, economist Art Laffer. Kudlow has openly spoken about his struggles with addiction and told the New York TImes in March that he had been sober for 23 years.
