WASHINGTON, DC - JANUARY 30: Eric Trump and Lara Trump attend the State of the Union address in the chamber of the U.S. House of Representatives January 30, 2018 in Washington, DC. This is the first State of the Union address given by U.S. President Donald Trump and his second joint-session address to Congress.
Lara Trump, First Son Eric Trump’s wife, poked fun at Joe Biden’s stutter at a Trump rally in Iowa last Thursday.
Trump, at a Women for Trump event, said of the former Vice President, “I feel kind of sad for Joe Biden because I’m supposed to want him to fail at every turn, but every time he comes on stage or they turn to him I’m like ‘Joe can you get it out? Let’s get the words out Joe.'”
Lara Trump denied making fun of Biden’s stutter, saying, “Yet another example of the egregious reporting we see every day in the mainstream media.”
Trump’s reelection Communications Director Tim Murtaugh, came to Lara Trump’s defense, claiming she wasn’t referring to Biden’s stutter. “Biden was a terrible candidate the first 2 times he ran for president & he’s no better this time,” Murtaugh said in a tweet. “He doesn’t know what state he’s in half the time & thinks Thatcher is still British PM.”

This isn’t the first time someone close to the president has made fun of Biden for his speech impediment. Last December, former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders made fun of Biden in a tweet that’s been since deleted: “”I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I hhhave absolutely no idea what Biden is talking about.” She then followed that tweet up by saying she was not making fun of people with speech impediments.

In response to Sanders’ remark, Biden tweeted,”I’ve worked my whole life to overcome a stutter. And it’s my great honor to mentor kids who have experienced the same. It’s called empathy. Look it up.”
His most obvious blunder was in Detroit in the Democratic Debate last summer where he fumbled his words while discussing Obamacare. Many voters were concerned it was a sign of an unhealthy candidate. Biden has dealt with a “debilitating stutter” since childhood, but told the Atlantic, “It can’t define you.”
