Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) spoke with The Root on Tuesday. During the interview, she discussed her openness to decriminalizing sex work, having “a conversation” about reparations for African Americans, legalizing marijuana and her support for the Lift Act, legislation that grants a tax credit on all families that make up to $100,000.
After being asked, she also aired her belief that Donald Trump is a racist (something other Democratic White House hopefuls have refused to outright say).
“I don’t think you can reach any other conclusion,” the presidential candidate said. “When you talk about him calling African countries s***hole countries, when you talk about him referring to immigrants as rapists and murderers, I don’t think you can reach any other conclusion.”
Interviewer Terrell Starr reiterated his question, asking, “So you definitely agree that he’s a racist?” Harris bluntly retorted, “I do, Yes.”

SLIDESHOW: DONALD TRUMP’S 30 CRAZIEST TWEETS
Trump, one day prior to Harris’ interview, lashed out at Spike Lee on Twitter, calling his Oscars acceptance speech a “racist hit”‘ on him.
The acclaimed film director won his first Oscar over the weekend for his work on BlacKkKlansman, which was nominated in the “Best Adapted Screenplay” category. Lee’s drama earned praise for tackling America’s racial inequality, a topic the filmmaker appropriately revisited during his speech.
Lee made a call to action for the approaching 2020 presidential election, saying, “Let’s all mobilize. Let’s all be on the right side of history. Make the moral choice between love versus hate. Let’s do the right thing!”
