Special Counsel Robert Mueller has investigated potential collusion between Donald Trump‘s presidential campaign and Russia during the 2016 election for over two years. However, their investigation could be nearing completion, according to several published reports.
Attorney General William Barr could announce the completion of the special counsel’s probe as soon as next week. However, as the Justice Department does not wish to conflict with Trump’s scheduled summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the timing is subject to change.
After the announcement happens, Barr will report to Congress with a summary of Mueller’s findings. According to the regulations of a special counsel investigation, a confidential report must be given to the attorney general, but he is under no obligation to share it with Congress. How much of Mueller’s findings Barr will reveal remains unknown, although he has expressed a desire to be transparent, adding how it is “vitally important” the special counsel finish its investigation.

Speaking with reporters at the White House on Wednesday, Trump declined to comment on whether he believes the report should be released, saying such a decision is up to Barr. “He’s a tremendous man and a tremendous person who really respects this country and respects the Justice Department,” Trump said.
Trump frequently challenges the integrity of Mueller’s investigation, dubbing it a “witch hunt.” On Sunday, the president called the probe “totally conflicted, illegal and rigged” on Twitter. He added how it should never have been “allowed to begin” in its current form and instead should have focused on alleged crimes the Democratic party is guilty of.
