On Monday, Georgia Judge Robert McBurney ordered the partial release of the Fulton County special grand jury report, which was requested by Atlanta D.A. Fani Willis last year, as it pertains to former President Donald Trump‘s efforts to alter the results of the 2020 presidential election.
The released sections will include the introduction and conclusion of the report, as well as a section that discusses potential lies told by key witnesses under oath.
Recommendations on charges for Trump and his team notably will be kept secret for now, an apparent compromise struck by Judge McBurney between prosecutors who want to decide on charges before the report is made public and a “coalition” of media organizations who want the full report released as soon as possible.
Willis requested the investigation in response to Trump’s January 2, 2021 phone call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, during which the former president requested that he “find 11,780 votes,” in order to flip the state in his favor. These votes, which did not exist, would have flipped the crucial swing state from blue to red.

“I didn’t say anything wrong in the call, made while I was President on behalf of the United States of America, to look into the massive voter fraud which took place in Georgia,” Trump said in response to the original investigation. “No more political witch hunts!”
The investigation into Trump’s meddling in Georgia’s election results is widely considered one of the former president’s most potent legal threats.
The investigation could implicate not only Trump but many of his co-conspirators as well. Among them are former Trump ally and lawyer Rudy Giuliani and 16 other Republicans who met to create a fake elector plot in order to flip the state for the former president.
