JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon Donates To Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, Who Blocked Biden Agenda

J.P. Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon and other executives donated money to centrist Democrat Sen. Kyrsten Sinema‘s (Arizona) reelection campaign in the first quarter of the year, according to Sinema’s most recent Federal Election Commission filing.

Dimon, who has been known to give funds to candidates in both parties, personally contributed $2,900, which is the maximum an individual can donate.

Fellow-Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly is up for reelection in the swing state, but Sinema is not up for reelection until 2024. Arizona went blue for President Joe Biden in 2020, for the first time in nearly 25 years.

Sinema was censured by Arizona Democrats in January after she opposed changing the longstanding filibuster rule to pass voting rights bills. The donations from J.P. Morgan executives came after she and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia), the other moderate senator, broke with their party to vote down the one-time change to the rule to do away with the 60-vote threshold in favor of a majority vote.

Mary Erdoes, the CEO of J.P. Morgan Chase’s Asset & Wealth Management line of business, contributed $2,900 to Sinema’s campaign in February and Robert Baynard, a vice chairman at the bank, donated $2,000 to her campaign in late January.

She drew criticism from her own party for opposing elements of Biden’s Build Back Better social and climate spending bill, and she notably has voiced opposition to raising taxes for the wealthy and corporations.
