Former CIA director John Brennan has fired back at President Donald Trump, saying the President revoked his security clearance to scare others “into silence.”
In an op-ed, Brennan said that Trump’s repeated claim that there was no collusion between his campaign and Russia is “hogwash.”
“The only questions that remain are whether the collusion that took place constituted criminally liable conspiracy, whether obstruction of justice occurred to cover up any collusion or conspiracy, and how many members of ‘Trump Incorporated’ attempted to defraud the government by laundering and concealing the movement of money into their pockets,” Brennan wrote in the New York Times.

He also called Trump’s actions politically motivated and an attempt to scare others who might challenge him. “Mr. Trump clearly has become more desperate to protect himself and those close to him, which is why he made the politically motivated decision to revoke my security clearance in an attempt to scare into silence others who might dare to challenge him,” said Brennan.
In a statement on Wednesday, the President said Brennan had “leveraged” his security clearance to make “wild outbursts” about the administration. “Brennan has a history that calls into question his objectivity and credibility,” said Trump.
But in an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, the president said the ongoing investigation into possible Russia collusion in the 2016 election was the reason behind his decision to revoke Brennan’s clearance. “I call it the rigged witch hunt, it is a sham. And these people led it … So I think it’s something that had to be done,” said Trump.
Brennan is not facing any formal charges of violating any regulations or laws. However, he has frequently criticized the president on television news shows and strongly worded tweets.
