Jeff Sessions Resigns As Attorney General At Donald Trump’s Request

President Donald Trump and his acting Attorney General Jeff Sessions have endured a contentious relationship, with Trump publicly airing his disapproval of his subordinate. However, their relationship has finally come to an end, as Sessions formally resigned from his post on Wednesday.

JEFF SESSIONS RESIGNS AS ATTORNEY GENERAL

Trump’s frequently expressed interest in firing Sessions, even going as far to add that he did not “have an attorney general,” so it was expected that Sessions’ time in the White House was limited. Trump did, however, concede that Sessions’ job was secure until the midterm elections passed as to not provoke a controversy.

And the Commander in Chief wasted little time in terminating Sessions, as the former Attorney General submitted his resignation letter to White House Chief of Staff John Kelly. According to Trump, Sessions’ immediate successor will be Matthew Whitaker, who previously served as the Chief of Staff to Sessions. Trump also thanked his former employee for his service, and added that a “permanent replacement will be nominated at a later date.”
