A January 6 rally participant who has QAnon ties won his primary on Tuesday night and is running for a Republican U.S. House seat in a northwest Ohio district.
J.R. Majewski (R) will be running against Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur, who is the longest-serving woman in House history having held the seat since 1983. The race for the newly drawn district is projected to be close. Kaptur has been sworn in 20 times in her long career, but the district she served then ran from Toledo to Cleveland. Now, the district covers the rural northwestern corner of Ohio, an area that consistently elects Republicans to represent them.
Before embarking on a career in politics, Majewski served as a member of the Air Force. He made headlines in 2020 for painting his lawn to look like a former President Donald Trump reelection poster. When he made an appearance on Fox News to discuss his lawn art, he wore a QAnon t-shirt. He has also given multiple nods to the far-right conspiracy group on social media. Majewski said that he only attended the “Stop the Steal” rally on January 6, 2021, but was not on location as other attendees breached the Capitol in efforts to stop the certification of President Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 election.
Majewski has not been formally endorsed by Trump, but the ex-President has praised him.
