Ivanka Trump Used Private Email Account Extensively For Government Business In 2017

Ivanka Trump used a personal email account last year to send hundreds of emails about government business to White House aides, it was reported Monday.

According to The Washington Post, Cabinet officials and the 37-year-old first daughter’s assistants utilized personal email accounts, an action that violates federal records rules.

Trump was first discovered to have used personal email last fall when White House ethics officials started reviewing emails collected by five Cabinet agencies. This review concluded that for a significant portion of 2017, the first daughter used a private email account with a domain she shares with her husband and fellow presidential adviser, Jared Kushner.

Some of President Donald Trumps advisers were reportedly shocked by the revelations about Ivanka, whose father was allegedly concerned that her behavior was similar to that exhibited by Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clintonwho was excoriated several times throughout the 2016 election because of her own use of a private email server.

Donald Trump often blasted Clinton as “Crooked Hillary,” and once even said in a televised event early in 2016 that he hoped Russia was watching and could find the 33,000 emails missing from the former Secretary of State’s server. Clinton completely bypassed government servers for her email use during her time as secretary of state.

The Post also reported that when Ivanka was asked about her use of private email, she claimed to be unfamiliar with specifics about federal regulations about the issue.

“While transitioning into government, after she was given an official account but until the White House provided her the same guidance they had given others who started before she did, Ms. Trump sometimes used her personal account, almost always for logistics and scheduling concerning her family,” read a statement from Peter Mirijanian, a spokesman for Ivanka’s lawyer and ethics counsel, Abbe Lowell.

Mirijanian also claimed in his statement that the first daughter never had a private email server in her home or office, and that she never deleted any emails.

After a lengthy investigation into Clinton’s personal email use, for instance, the FBI concluded that 110 emails contained classified information at the time they were received or sent.
