Ivanka Trump, White House aide and Donald Trump‘s daughter, recently spoke less than enthusiastically about the Green New Deal. The Green New Deal is a proposal made with the intent of transitioning the United States to renewable energy sources, with the country generating 100 percent of its energy from them within ten years. It was created and is being championed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).
Speaking with Fox News’ Steve Hilton on Sunday, Trump was asked, “You’ve got people who will see that offer from the progressive Democrats, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, here’s the Green New Deal, here’s a guarantee of a new job. And [they] think, ‘That’s what I want. That’s simple.’ What do you say to that?”

Trump believes this offer won’t resonate with the American people. “I don’t think most Americans, in their heart, want to be given something,” Trump said in response. “I’ve spent a lot of time traveling around this country over the last four years. People want to work for what they get. So, I think that this idea of a guaranteed minimum is not something most people want. They want the ability to be able to secure a job. They want the ability to live in a country where’s there’s the potential for upward mobility.”

Ocasio-Cortez caught wind of Trump’s comments and fired back through a series of tweets. The Democrat prefaced her comments by saying she “actually worked for tips & hourly wages,” adding how she didn’t learn about them through second hand accounts. Ocasio-Cortez explained how a “living wage isn’t a gift, it’s a right,” one all citizens desire and should be entitled to.
