A congressional intern for Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) has recently been suspended for shouting “Mr. President, F—k you” just seconds prior to the president’s arrival.

The expletive was launched from the back of the crowd moments before President Donald Trump walked near the Capitol Rotunda to meet with GOP lawmakers about proposed immigration legislation last week. The incident was captured by NBC News producer Frank Thorp, who later circulated the video via Twitter.

The intern has since been identified by Fox News as 21-year-old Caitlin Marriott, who will continue to work in the office of Sen. Hassan throughout the summer as planned. The senator’s director of communications Aaron Jacobs told The Hill that the office is “aware of the situation.”

“We are aware of the situation and have taken disciplinary action, including a one-week suspension and revoking her Congressional intern ID badge, in response to her breach of office policies regarding respectful and appropriate conduct” said Jacobs.

Without her Congressional intern ID badge, Marriott will no longer be permitted to enter the Capitol, where the incident unfolded.

“We also facilitated contact with Capitol Police,” stated Jacobs.

The encounter comes in the midst of an ongoing debate as to the increasing lack of civility in public discourse today. On Monday, Congresswomen Maxine Waters encouraged rally-goers to push back on Trump’s Cabinet members by publicly confronting them about their policies. Meanwhile, CNN reporter Jim Acosta was heckled and even told to “get the f—k out” by Trump supporters while covering a Republican campaign rally the same day.
