Hunter Biden Reaches Plea Deal For Charges Alleging Tax Fraud & Possession Of A Firearm

After a five-year federal investigation, Hunter Biden has reached a deal with federal prosecutors over his failure to pay $1 million in federal taxes and his possession of a handgun.

In 2018, Hunter Biden purchased a .38-caliber Colt revolver that was allegedly found by his late brother’s wife. Secret Service agents and officials from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the situation.

In a background check conducted to buy the gun, Hunter Biden responded “no” to a question that asked if he was an “unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance.”

Five years early, however, Hunter Biden had been discharged from the Navy Reserve after testing positive for cocaine and later acknowledged his struggle with drug abuse in his memoir, Beautiful Things.

The investigation into Hunter Biden’s wrongdoings was overseen by U.S. Attorney for Delaware David Weiss, who was appointed by Donald Trump and was permitted to stay by President Joe Biden, who wanted to make sure the probe into his son was completed.

According to a federal court filing on Tuesday, Hunter Biden will plead guilty to a pair of misdemeanor tax charges, but the court will dismiss the charges for being in possession of a firearm while being a user of illegal drugs and for lying on the gun-purchase form, so long as Hunter Biden completes a two-year probation period.

His compliance with these conditions will most likely keep him from serving any time in prison.

Republicans, backed by Trump, have been focused on the investigation into Hunter Biden for years, specifically urging prosecutors to look into his alleged business dealings with Ukraine. There have been claims that Hunter Biden had evidence of these dealings on a laptop, which he abandoned at a repair shop in Delaware.

Although the probe into Hunter Biden has been led by officials whom Trump appointed, Republicans are still pushing the narrative that the investigation was corrupt.
