House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler Says “President Trump Is Lying” About Mueller Report
Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Jerry Nadler (D-New York) told reporters on Wednesday that the remarks of Robert Mueller III about the Russia investigation clearly demonstrated that President Donald Trump is a liar. “With respect to impeachment, all options are on the table,” said Nadler when asked about how Democrats would respond to Mueller’s statement. The New York representative also bashed those who claimed that the Mueller report exonerated Trump, asserting that “The special counsel has clearly demonstrated that President Trump is lying.”
Nadler’s words come during a difficult time for the Democratic party. While the House of Representatives is now in their control, the party is split over how to proceed with regards to impeachment. The Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-California) has been adamant in her decision not to even attempt impeachment, believing that such a course of action would be heavily damaging to the reputation of her party. Instead, Pelosi has continued to instead set her sights on the 2020 elections and on House legislation, two issues she believes are more reachable.

So far the speaker has been successful in keeping her party in line, but as Nadler’s comments show, more and more Democratic representatives are beginning to clamor for impeachment, especially after Mueller’s statement Wednesday. The more liberal members of the House, such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York), have been chafing under what they perceive to be the establishment views of Pelosi. Such representatives believe that it is their duty to at least try to remove the president from office in order to show to the nation that criminal behavior like that of Trump will not be tolerated. However, as of yet, this faction has had little success, as the speaker has maintained a vice-like grasp on her fellow Democrats, preventing them from breaking with the party.
