Hillary Clinton Won’t Rule Out Running In 2020: “I’d Like To Be President”

Hillary Clinton fought a difficult presidential race against Donald Trump in 2016, one that she ultimately lost to her Republican opponent. However, Clinton noncommittally mentioned that she hasn’t closed the door on running again in 2020, reaffirming her desire to become president.

Clinton partook in a Q&A on Friday night with Kara Swisher. At one point during the event, the Recode editor asked Clinton, “Do you want to run again?” Clinton’s response was swift and blunt: “No.” Audible laughter could be heard from the audience.

However, Swisher pressed her inquiry further, eventually getting the former first lady to admit that she “would like to be president.” Continuing, the former Secretary of State noted how “there’s going to be so much work to be done,” hoping a Democrat wins the 2020 presidential election.

“The work would be work that I feel very well-prepared for having been in the Senate for eight years, having been a diplomat in the State Department,” Clinton added, reciting the resume she often touted during her last presidential bid. She will not entertain the idea of another presidential run until after the midterm elections, however. Nevertheless, Clinton’s words have certainly fueled speculation that she’s eyeing a 2020 bid.

Clinton initially maintained a low public profile after Trump’s 2016 victory. However, she has as of late been reemerging in the public eye, appearing in interviews to challenge Trump and recently as a guest speaker at a fundraiser for New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez. She will join Bill Clinton, her husband and former president, in a 13-city tour next year where they will spearhead dialogs concerning the current political landscape.
