Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina) announced his presidential exploratory committee as the prominent Republican contemplates a run for the country’s highest office.

Scott, the lone black Republican Senator, made the announcement in a three-minute video.

“I will never back down in defense of the conservative values that make America exceptional, and that’s why I’m announcing my exploratory committee for president of the United States,” Scott said in the video.

Scott’s committee will test the waters for a presidential run in a hotly contested Republican primary. The race already includes former President Donald Trump, former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson and tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. Many pundits believe Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former Vice President Mike Pence will announce their candidacies soon.

“When I fought back against their liberal agenda, they called me a prop—a token. Because I disrupt their narrative, I threaten their control. They know the truth of my life disproves their lies.”
