While the prosecution presented their case, alongside a chilling video detailing the Capitol riot timeline and Trump’s encouragement of rioters, senators could be seen writing notes and attentively listening to the arguments. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky), who was not wearing a mask, doodled squiggly lines on a notepad during the presentation.
Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) was sitting right next to Paul and taking notes “furiously.” Others from inside the chamber note that other GOP senators were otherwise occupied during the defense’s argument. Sen. Mike Braun (R-Indiana) was seen reading The Hill newspaper in the back of the chamber, and Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) was reading unrelated documents.
