GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz Will Attempt To Block Electoral College Certification By Congress
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) announced on Monday that he plans to block Congress’ certification of the Electoral College vote, which reaffirmed President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
“On January 6th, I’m joining with the fighters in Congress,” Gaetz said. “We’re going to OBJECT to electors from states that didn’t run clean elections.”

There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud as President Donald Trump and his allies, such as Gaetz, have claimed. Numerous legal challenges attempting to overturn swing state’s certification of Biden’s win have been rejected, and the Supreme Court has indicated they are unlikely to intervene in electoral affairs.
While several Republican lawmakers have accepted Biden’s win, particularly following the Electoral College’s decision, a small handful have continued to assert without evidence that the 2020 election was fraudulent and that Trump remains the true victor.
Gaetz had previously said, “nothing is off the table” in regards to blocking Biden from taking office. A few other Republicans, such as Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Ohio) of the Freedom Caucus, have publicly shown their support for blocking the certification of the Electoral College results.
