George W. Bush Says He Voted For Condoleezza Rice – Not Trump

Former President George W. Bush revealed that, rather than voting for 2020 Republican party nominee Donald Trump, he wrote in former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for president during the 2020 election.

“She knows it,” Bush said in an interview with People. “But she told me she would refuse to accept the office.” Rice was one of Bush’s closest advisors during his presidency.

This is not the first time Bush has spoken out about his distaste for the modern GOP. In fact, in a recent interview with NBC’s Today show, Bush described the GOP as “isolationist, protectionist and, to a certain extent, nativist. Really, what I should have said — there’s loud voices who are isolationists, protectionists and nativists, something, by the way, I talked about when I was president. But I painted with too broad a brush … because by saying what I said, it excluded a lot of Republicans who believe we can fix the problem.”

Ever since George’s brother, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, ran against Trump back in 2016, the Bushes and the Trumps have been at odds with each other. During his 2016 presidential campaign, Trump routinely mocked Jeb and George, even going so far as to insinuate that the former president was to blame for the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Despite never directly calling out Trump, Bush has appeared to indirectly challenge some of Trump’s policies in recent years, namely by promoting a more lenient approach to immigration reform.
